Take your grilled cheese game to a whole new level. This version adds sweet-savory depth with golden onions and crisp apple slices—all nestled between two golden, buttery slabs of sourdough.
4 slices Two Acre Farms sourdough
1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 small apple (like Honeycrisp), thinly sliced
4 slices sharp white cheddar or gruyère
1 tbsp butter (plus more for toasting)
A pinch of thyme (optional)
Salt to taste
In a skillet over medium-low heat, melt 1 tbsp butter and sauté onions with a pinch of salt and thyme until deeply golden (about 15–20 minutes).
Butter one side of each sourdough slice.
On the unbuttered side, layer cheese, caramelized onion, and apple slices.
Top with another slice of cheese and close the sandwich.
Grill on a skillet or panini press over medium heat until golden and melty, flipping as needed.
Crispy, gooey, sweet, and salty—this is not your average lunch. It’s a sandwich with something to say.
