Sourdough Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onion & Apple

Take your grilled cheese game to a whole new level. This version adds sweet-savory depth with golden onions and crisp apple slices—all nestled between two golden, buttery slabs of sourdough.

 

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Two Acre Farms sourdough

  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 small apple (like Honeycrisp), thinly sliced

  • 4 slices sharp white cheddar or gruyère

  • 1 tbsp butter (plus more for toasting)

  • A pinch of thyme (optional)

  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a skillet over medium-low heat, melt 1 tbsp butter and sauté onions with a pinch of salt and thyme until deeply golden (about 15–20 minutes).

  • Butter one side of each sourdough slice.

  • On the unbuttered side, layer cheese, caramelized onion, and apple slices.

  • Top with another slice of cheese and close the sandwich.

  • Grill on a skillet or panini press over medium heat until golden and melty, flipping as needed.
